A Backyard Apartment (granny flat) is a self-contained dwelling that can be a standalone building or attached to your house.

Generally yes, but there can be restrictions based on the zoning and whether your site is bushfire affected. We will research all of this for you.

Yes. There are 2 different ways of getting your new Backyard Apartment approved and each has its own set of rules that we must comply with.

It usually takes 3 weeks to gain approval using what is commonly called “Complying Development”. If we need to get approval through your local council then it could take 6-12 weeks.

We don’t have any standard designs! You are welcome to get inspiration from other sources but we custom design each Backyard Apartment based on the orientation of your site, slope of the land, overshadowing from neighbours and other factors.

The maximum allowed size is 60m². We can however include covered outdoor areas, carports and garages depending on the site.

We can provide a separate electrical meter box and gas meter but there will be no extra water meter as per Sydney Water’s guidelines.

Absolutely. We work with you to select all of the colours and materials.

Yes we do.

Yes we can. This would include wider doors, suitable fixtures (the toilet for example) and ensuring there are no steps.
